How To Teach Multiplication Table To Kids Easily

How To Teach Multiplication Table To Kids Easily – Multiplication is an arithmetic operator that is commonly taught during elementary school, and the kids quite often find it complex as addition, subtraction, and division are relatively easier to understand. The multiplication table is a mnemonic device that helps students memorize the multiplication table. Simple student organizational tools can make a big difference for students of all ages.

One of the biggest problems in teaching multiplication tables to kids is how to make it easy and fun, especially to prevent boredom among students during the class sessions where they tend to be reluctant when new stuff is being taught. Much emphasis is laid on memorizing the table from 1 to 20, but if the basis of multiplication is clear, then the kids don’t even need to learn the tables of larger numbers as the basic tables from 0 to 9 are enough to learn the basic concepts.

The way to teach kids multiplication tables is through simple basic concepts like skip counting, games, and puzzles. A lot of people are not aware that there are fun games and puzzles to make the process of learning these tables easy for both kids and adults alike. It doesn’t even matter if they know their numbers or not; the best way forward is to start with times tables for 2s, 3s, 4s, and so on until they reach 12. The traditional method of rote memorization may help them sometime in the future but will surely lead to many hours wasted on things that do not matter at all. Hence to make the concept of multiplication tables clear to kids, here are some easy steps to teaching multiplication tables to kids without using a traditional method of rote memorization.

If the concept of addition is clear to kids, then repetitive addition can be explained to kids that it is equivalent to multiplication. For instance, the question “ 4 multiplied by 4 ?” translates to “What will be the answer when 4 is repeated four times?” Hence, the answer will be 16, as 4+4+4+4=16

Early graders can start with skip counting. This technique is used to help kids become familiar with the multiplication table by using different kinds of patterns that result from skip counting.

On practicing the time tables, further, kids will observe patterns of 0 and 5 in the multiplication table of 5 and 10 in the multiplication table of 100. So they may begin to understand how multiplication works with different numbers.

Some games like doubles games can be helpful, which focuses on how multiplication relates to addition. For this, on a sheet of paper, draw two columns. Title one column “Doubles” and in the second column title it “Product.” Have the students write down any number in the doubles box then have them double this number every turn, which they must write down in another box above their initial number.

Many other such kinds of games can be created for the kids. Another game to teach multiplication to kids would be the pattern game, where kids are required to find the missing numbers in the table. For instance, a pattern may be “2 times 4 is 8,” and ask the kids to find two numbers between 2 and 4 that will make 8.

Multiplication worksheets for kids are the best way to help them practice their multiplication skills. There are many websites and apps that offer activities for students who want to improve their math skills in which they can solve different sums related to mathematics, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc. One of these websites is Cuemath which is an established brand name, and a variety of interactive and engaging worksheets can be downloaded for kids. These are free and easy to download and can be printed for home or class use.
